Palm Desert, incorporated November 26, 1973, and known as the cultural and retail center of the desert communities, is rated one of the safest cities in Southern California. Palm Desert, centered in the heart of the Coachella Valley, starts with fairly flat land then, as it moves south, flows into a canyon bordered on the north by the Cahuilla Hills and on the south by Indio Mountain, which offers a very pretty setting. The canyon moves uphill and into the mountains, giving residents views of the valley.

Palm Desert is a resort-retirement town, renowned for its golf courses. Although the population is 36,287, in winter this number almost quadruples with individuals seeking the golf and resort way of life the City has to offer. Due to the immense love of golf, the city government has put together a transit plan for golf carts. Residents use them to shop and get around town.
In its heart of hearts and its dream of dreams is golf.
